Monroe County Detention Center Overview
Monroe County Detention Center is operated by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Brad Freeman. Official sheriff pages use names such as Detention-Jail, Monroe County Detention Center, Monroe Co Jail, and Monroe County Jail. The facility receives and processes people taken into custody by Monroe County agencies and other law-enforcement agencies operating in the county.
The jail holds pretrial detainees, people waiting for bond or court disposition, county-time sentenced inmates, and people sentenced to state time while they wait for transfer to a Georgia Department of Corrections facility. That distinction matters: the Monroe County roster is the correct tool for current county-jail custody, while GDC Find an Offender is the correct tool after state-prison transfer.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office detention page identifies the jail, leadership, inmate search link, capacity statement, and Georgia booking-photo notice.
The sheriff page is the source that connects the county jail to the vendor-hosted current inmate roster and explains that booking photographs are not posted on the sheriff website.
Monroe County Detention Center Capacity and Population
The sheriff detention page inspected June 4, 2026 says the jail can house 168 inmates at full capacity and has 34 certified detention deputies. The Georgia Sheriffs' Association May 2026 jail report lists Monroe County with 175 beds, 179 inmates, 102.3 percent utilization, 156 awaiting trial, 8 state-sentenced inmates, 5 county-sentenced inmates, and 10 other inmates. Preserve both capacity figures because they come from different official sources.
How to Look Up an Inmate at Monroe County Detention Center
The official county-jail lookup is the Monroe County Current Inmates roster hosted on InteropWeb and linked from the sheriff's detention page. It is for current and recent county bookings, not for sentenced people already moved to Burruss or another GDC prison.
- Open the sheriff-linked InteropWeb roster at https://www.interopweb.com/monroeso/.
- Choose Current Inmates, 24 Hours Arrests, or Inmates by Arrest Date.
- Use the optional inmate-name filter when the name is known.
- Review the result for status, arrest date, arresting agency, days in jail, total bond, warrant number, statute, charge description, misdemeanor or felony indicator, and court.
- If the person is not listed, call the Detention Center at (478) 994-7051 or use open records, VINELink, GDC, BOP, or ICE depending on custody type.
The official InteropWeb current inmate roster includes tabs for current inmates, 24-hour arrests, and arrest-date browsing.
The roster gives charge and bond details but the public capture showed redacted height, weight, and address fields and no posted booking photographs.

Use the detention number for current custody, booking status, housing, visitation, and jail-operational questions. Open-records requests go through the records office rather than the detention phone when a copy of a record is needed.

Booking and Intake at Monroe County Detention Center
After arrest, a person is transported to the Monroe County Detention Center for intake by detention staff. The sheriff says 34 certified detention deputies handle day-to-day operations including intake, booking, transports, and pickups. Money in cash, money order, or certified check in an inmate's possession at booking is credited to the commissary account. Medical care is provided through medically trained personnel under CorrectHealth, and medication must be prescribed or approved by the licensed facility physician.
Bond, Booking Photos, and the Sheriff App
Monroe County bond can be posted day or night for bondable offenses. The sheriff page documents cash, property, professional, and transfer bonds, plus a $20 completed-bond fee. A listed bond does not guarantee release if a court no-bond order, probation hold, other-jurisdiction hold, or DHS/ICE detainer applies.
The sheriff states that booking photographs are not posted on the website pursuant to O.C.G.A. 35-1-19(c). The official app graphics show Jail Info and Inmate Search modules, but the app-store text should be treated as app-supported convenience rather than proof that every roster field or image is available in the app.
Check before travel: Visitation status, housing schedule, and release timing can change faster than public pages update.
